Revitalizing a Chester Landscape

What once was a tired, weather-worn landscape no longer reflected the beauty of this Chester estate. Years of harsh weather and aging plantings had left the property imbalanced and lacking the vibrancy it once had.

Jenn crafted a thoughtful design that honored the homeowners’ vision while selecting plants perfectly suited to the site’s diverse conditions. In areas where boxwoods had failed due to poor drainage, wet-site-tolerant natives like Itea and Clethra were introduced. For the sloped rock garden visible from the pool, drought-tolerant bloomers such as Russian Sage and Catmint now offer a long season of color with minimal maintenance.

To reduce the recurring cost and upkeep of annuals, Jenn replaced the front garden’s planting scheme with a dynamic double row of perennials. In spring, ruby-pink Astilbe brings striking color, followed by vivid blue Lobelia blooms that rise above the fern-like foliage. Their staggered bloom times create continuous visual interest, and since both species thrive in moist soil, the display will only improve with time.

Even the evergreens contribute more than structure—Fire Chief Arborvitaes and Globe Blue Spruces introduce soft, contrasting tones that complement the home’s stone architecture and provide year-round beauty.

The result is a vibrant, resilient landscape designed to flourish in its environment. It not only enhances the character of the home but also brings a renewed sense of harmony, offering enduring beauty through every season.
